The "Fine Print":

Before applying for the scholarship:

  • Review the required equipment list for recreational and rescue courses. Please ensure that you have access to and will show up to the course with all required equipment.

  • We will follow the Silverton Avalanche School's cancellation and transfer policies. Please review these policies. (In the event of a course transfer, you will be responsible for paying any transfer fees.)

  • If for some reason you cannot make the course you originally signed up for, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can best coordinate these changes.

Scholarship recipients will need to:

  • Use the code to sign up for a course within one year. This scholarship may be used for available courses during the current or following season. (Please note that these scholarships are for open-enrollment courses, and depending on enrollment, the course you want to sign up for may already be full for the current season.)

  • We encourage recipients using the scholarship for a Rec 1 or Rescue course to sign up for a local course. Rec 1 courses are currently offered in Taos; Rescue courses are offered in Santa Fe. (We recognize that Rec 2 courses are not yet offered in our area, which is why these scholarships are offered with a stipend to support travel to take a Rec 2 in Silverton, CO.)

  • Review all pre-course resources (approx. 1 hour) to set yourself up for success.

  • Show up to the course with all required equipment.

  • Attend the course in-full. (In the result of illness and/or injury, please let us know as soon as possible.)

  • After the course, share the certificate of completion (you will not receive this without attending the course in-full).

  • Share a brief statement about their experience (see above).
